is due to further disbursements on account of damages
sustained in the typhoon of the year 1906, which were
anticipated in the concluding paragraph of Sir Matthew
Nathan's Despatch No. 61 of 22nd. March, 1907.

A comparison of the Statement of
the probable financial position on 31st. December, 1907,
transmitted in my Despatch No. 260 of 14th. October, 1907,
with the position disclosed by these Returns will show that
the estimated surplus of Revenue has advanced to $845,077,
and the estimated balance of Assets over Liabilities to
$1,444,738, a rise of $61,968 and $9,393 respectively.

The financial position of the
Colony at the close of the year 1907 may be regarded as
satisfactory.
